Steve's Skinny Bike And Elvis

“Big Dan” Ortiz and Steve Rebuck, Santa Barbara, 1971 "This skinny bike lasted about a week before I realized those handlebars didn’t cut it" SR

Steve was also making and painting leather jackets in the early 70's. Here he is modelling one of his creations in '73.

He did a couple for Elvis too. That's so brilliant.

R.I.P. Ian.

Just got the news from Michael Schmidt that his friend Ian from Encinitas, california passed away last night. So tragic and so sad. Our love goes out to his family and friends. We actually just laid out the Epic photo shoot a couple of days ago that Michael shot with him and his friends Ralf and Chris for issue 47. I never even met you and I miss you already my friend. "Ian Barry, aka Poods, was a brother to everyone. Loved life and his friends. Just wanted to ride choppers. I never met anyone who didn't like this kind soul. He will be missed forever...1969 forever! "Less Technology and More Nature." By Julia Heit.

Man that was a gig and half. Such good fun. We made a few mistakes here and there, mainly because we hadn't played together for about 10 years, but I reckon we did alright. We had a bloody great time, I know that much. My ears are fucked. Thanks for the fantastic pics Jonny.

I'm often asked by friends who are off to London "What is the best cafe in the city?" well that is such an easy answer. The River Cafe right opposite Putney Bridge tube station gets my vote every time. I have been going there on and off for the last 20 years and have still not found better. The food is fantastic, they do good coffee as well as the instant stuff. Crusty bread or sliced out of a packet. Fresh or tinned tomatoes etc etc it's these small things that make a good cafe great. The same Italian family have run it for years and they are the nicest people.

We want to thank all of you that took the time to submit photo's for a chance to win the last 4 tickets available for the 6OVER premier this Friday night, the 21st of September at the Indie Screen Theatre. It was tough to make a final decision but here are the two winners.....

Peter submitted this photo from his spot in Germany as he was packing to leave for Brooklyn this week and figured out not everything was going to make it with him. A pair of tickets goes to him for making the long distance trek over and this submission.....

So I clicked open an e mail from Craig and didn't quite know how to feel, I still don't ....... Craig, you look like you could use a tune up my good man and for that we have a pair of tickets for you as well. See you Friday night!

With all the requests Walter got for tickets to 6OVER he carved out some lobby space, bar and some flat screens to offer some of you that didn't grab tickets a spot to hang out and see the movie. After the screening make sure to hit the street and walk on over to the DicE party at the Gutter Bar. Do not sleep on the Brooklyn Invitational, it's going to be a great night Saturday as well. It's Been A While...I Need A Cavan Fix.

Brooklyn Invitational Riding Award.

John, Jeffro & Keino said...

"This year we will be picking one bike from the everyone who rides to the invitational to be in the show! We will select the bike from the street at 5pm SHARP! so if you would like to have a chance at this, please be there by 4pm. Winner will receive a special Brooklyn Invitational package and must be willing to leave their bike inside for the duration of the show. We are really excited to have this be a part of the event this year and look forward to seeing everyone there!"

Issue 46.

When I was 5 years old I remember seeing a motorcycle for the first time ever and it had a huge impact on me! I will never forget it! I was in the front garden of my house playing with my toy trains and being a little loser bitch. That’s when I heard a very loud noise coming down the street and it kept getting louder! I excitedly ran to the gate and saw a guy wearing a black leather jacket fly past on bike that had flames painted on the tank and lots of chrome and super high handlebars. Even though I was very young and extremely stupid, I still knew the guy must have been a total kook. Well now I'm that kook and I have learned that its great to have a chopper...If, 1.) You want to attract the attention of old guys who always tell you they had the same bike back in 1926…even though it’s a fucking 1957. 2.) You like dying or getting smashed under a truck or losing your face on the tarmac of a freeway at 90mph. 3.) You need to prove to your friends just how awesome you are by buying old Chopper parts on eBay for 8 times what they are worth just to have the rarest part around. 4.) You never want to meet an attractive human being of the female gender ever again. I suppose if you don’t care about any of that, then fuck it…buy a Panhead and be a legend at your local man bar where you can only wear leather and chains and show your penis a lot to other men dressed in leather and chains. Boom Issue 45 is HERE people!!!

What the piss? That's right...Your tiny little mind just imploded after seeing the insane cover by the one and only...Maxwell Paternoster! Whhhhiskey!

In this very issue we have the fantastic Wild Magazine insert by our good friend Freaky Rico from France and it's a scorcher!!!

“I'd always see those ‘Loud Pipes Save Lives’ stickers on bikers helmets outside the bar, and I never really thought twice about them. The stickers would just kind of blend into the banal biker aesthetic that we're all too familiar with, just another platitudinous saying amidst a garden of ‘American boys ride American Toys’ and ‘Helmet Laws Suck’. But when you spend those late nights at the shop wearing torn up knuckles like wedding rings because the wrench slipped…when you're so frustrated that you stopped caring to use a rag to wipe the sweat off your nose so you just use your black, gritty hands and when you're knee is sore and swollen from the kicker slipping, what about those nights? Those nights aren't spent alone. Two dozen beers and a half dozen friends are all invested with you. The collective interest of the group understands that this is what we do to stay sane and to keep our heads above water. We each know that outside of the thin tin walls of the shop we're worried about paying next month's rent and paying for last night's bad decisions. We all struggle with the mundane problems of life that stretch us to the breaking point together. But a cluster of flickering headlights speeding down Old Montgomery Highway at 1am on a hot Alabama Night always outruns problems. The girlfriends and the bills and the jobs get washed away in a cloud of smoke. The problems can never scream hard enough to be heard over the rumbling exhaust. Maybe there's more to that sticker than I thought. Maybe loud pipes really do save lives???"                                                                    David Clyburn's Panhead, Birmingham, Alabama - USA.
